Thanks to the efforts of State Senator Nicholas
Spano, the Yonkers Historical Society will receive $50,000 in state
funding towards improvement to the Society’s Sherwood House site,
located on Tuckahoe Road at the Sprain Brook Parkway. Senator Spano was
also instrumental in reaching out to Con Edison and Shop Rite
Supermarkets and gaining their support to provide both long-term
maintenance and capital improvements at the property, which was
developed in 1740 as a tenant farm site for the Manor of Philipsburgh.
We look forward to commencing with building projects after our
completion of a master plan for the Sherwood House, its grounds and
adjacent structures.
